ARCHIVES REPOSITORY RESEARCH

HISTORY R.A.T. provides an archives research service for those needing to locate, explore, research and obtain archival material in archival repositories. With ten years employment experience in the British Library archival and manuscript collections, as well as working in partnership with the National Archives during for a PhD thesis, HISTORY R.A.T., has extensive knowledge of major British archival collections.

HISTORY R.A.T. can visit repositories on behalf of clients unfamiliar with archives or who have time constraints. Archival research might encompass answering specific research enquiries, locating archival collections of specific individuals, checking archival references and sourcing relevant archival material for content and providing document reproduction if available under repository and copyright restrictions. HISTORY R.A.T. will provide an archive research report and reproductions based on client need.

  • Email HISTORY R.A.T. at history.r.a.t@outlook.com or via the Contact page with a short introduction and a summary of your archival query.

We will follow up and arrange a free online 30 minute consultation where we will discuss your query, how much time your enquiry might need and what archival repository visits may be required. We will also discuss budgets and suitability of the commission for both us and yourself, as well as desired outcomes.

This will be followed up with a quote and a time frame for your consideration.

  • Fees are £35 per hour, plus travel and any cost incurred in reproducing documents via repository services. HISTORY R.A.T. will not charge travel for archives within zones 1-4 of London, but for archives further afield, travel and accommodation costs would be incurred.

First 3 commissions will be priced at a discount rate of £25 per hour.
